That's true, only if you don't factor in federal fringe benefits, federal job protection & federal retirement. Since contractors do not get federal fringe & retirement & job protection they can be let go at the end of a contract or a new contract can be competed.
I happen to know that we taxpayers pay about 20% - 30% overhead for contractors. We pay a bit over 30% overhead (fringe & retirement) for a fed. Additionally, we pay the fed retiree until he dies and then a lesser amount to the survivor.
I assume you do full cost accounting before you submit a bid. Fed agencies do too (Or should). If the one you contract with does not, then do the taxpayer a favor and report them.
The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.
