When the WMD weren't found in the first few weeks of the invasion of Iraq at President Bush's order, he sent some flunkies over there to investigate, search, and compose a report. The report was issued and is called The Duelfer Report. Do a search on this site, it was the center of much misinterpretation by right wing loonies too lazy or just plain unable to read a document longer than a comic book. The Duelfer Report made it clear, there were no active WMD programs in Iraq in the years after the first Gulf War, and that Saddam's antics and bluster was orchestrated to make the Iranians think twice about invading Iraq. He had nothing left but bluster and bravado. The UN sanctions, even with the much publicized corruption with US companies in Houston in the oil for food program, were devastatingly effective, beyond what all our intelligence gathering and interpreting efforts indicated.

What you seem to be missing is that while the "yellow cake" you are all in a lather about resided in Iraq, it was not in Iraqi possession. It was under UN possession. No one else allowed to have it wanted it, so the UN elected to leave it there, under their watch.

Read the Duelfer Report. All of it. I did and it is clear, even if written by a Bush loyalist looking to try to make Bush seem other than the simpleton he is. Saddam was the head of a barely functioning government, while WMD programs may have been dancing in his head, they were not within his grasp, and his main enemy was Iran. Funny we found we had to depose him. No real logic, just out of control testosterone and cowboy diplomacy. Jim

Please don't hurt multipurpose and bottomline1's feelings with the truth; let's be gentle and clap our hands everytime they post bullshit spin, it will make them feel better about themselves and maybe give us some slack and call us patriots for a change.

I believe THAT issue was two fold. First, uncontrolled supply [if the visits actually happened, you have to address the forged documents issue to clarify if there was actually an issue] and Second, the outting of an active COVERT agent by the White House as a resulting outcome of the Niger affair.

Remember, it was Bushie, and ONLY Bushie that got his panties in a wad over the Niger yellowcake issue and inserted it in his 2003 SOTU speech even though there has never been corroborating evidence to support the claim.

Quote:
in March 2003, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released results of his analysis of the documents. Reportedly, it took IAEA officials only a matter of hours to determine that these documents were fake. Using little more than a Google search, IAEA experts discovered indications of a crude forgery, such as the use of incorrect names of Nigerian officials. As a result, the IAEA reported to the U.N. Security Council that the documents were "in fact not authentic." The U.N. spokesman wrote:
"The I.A.E.A. was able to review correspondence coming from various bodies of the government of Niger and to compare the form, format, contents and signature of that correspondence with those of the alleged procurement-related documentation. Based on thorough analysis, the I.A.E.A. has concluded, with the concurrence of outside experts, that these documents, which formed the basis for the reports of recent uranium transaction between Iraq and Niger, are in fact not authentic. We have therefore concluded that these specific allegations are unfounded.
So to answer your question, no one really gave a wet poopie other than the Shrinking28.

Which minister? I would assume Niger has more than one.

How come the Niger minister is not nor has he been on trial?
Please if you have some real information on any transactions of yellow cake between Niger and Iraq post First Iraq War, we would like to know, or better yet contact the authorities instead of your grand standing here on BWOT about material fact that you have no clue about.
