A better question would be how you define the terms you used. In the thread which prompted this poll, you had me in a moderate to left category, most likely because I do not subscribe to the ignorant religious issues (ie - gay marriage, etc.) that one party beats the drum over as being relevant nor view our current administration as being conservative (moderate at best). My political tilt is pure conservative, as it should be defined, smaller federal government (means less taxes and less spending, no socialism), liberty, freedom from government . . . how do you define it?

I have found that the most effective surveys are the simplest ones, and that self-definitions are usually valid. Why over-analyze and needlessly complicate this?

And FWIW, I pegged you as "Centrist" in that other thread-- not "moderate to left." Perhaps I should start a poll on how personal biases influence ones reading ability...

Quite frankly, because your self definition of conservative is far different from my own, as evidenced by where you put me (and you're correct, it was Qbn you had moderate to left). I don't think I've ever posted a political thing in here that would lead anyone to a conclusion that I'm anything but a solid conservative. Perhaps if I purchased a set of rose colored glasses and bowed down at the holy altar of GW, you'd see me differently.

For heaven sakes Ed, give it a rest! We are all just guessing about each other based on a few hundred (thousand?) posts. Very unreliable, as you point out. Which is why I thought I give everyone a chance to say what they think they are based on their own definitions. I'm not looking for data to include in a refereed publication for a major international journal of psychology. Just our own best guesses.

I want desperately a smaller Fed and I want gov't to stay the hell out of religious and social issues. The taxes in the country are very prohibitive and will cause the smartest and best educated to look for income else where. But this is part of the slow march to socialism that seems inevitable and on par with the general consensus of what is "right." At least that is my interpretation as of now.
