Iraq was less threat to the U.S. than Jamaica or Bermuda. I find it utterly laughable when folks like bottomline1 try to forward the notion that Iraq was capable of dancing toe to toe with a superpower. Where are the Iraqi jets, aircraft carriers, and missile delivery systems, where are their nuclear submarines? Buried in the desert? Thank goodness we invaded before Iraq invaded the U.S. We would all be speaking Eye-rack-ee by now.

No, but it wouldn't matter if I did. I had posed a question to GS,"Why do you suppose Saddam had 550 metric tons of yellowcake? No answer.

My follow-up question was, "Why do you suppose Saddam had 1.8 tons of enriched uranium?" Waffle answer.

McBear joined in with euphemistic answer.

We know the chemical progression to nuclear weaponry. We know of Saddam's militaristic, expansionist behavior. We know that there was never an electrical power plant in the works. It just seems that a reasonable person would conclude that he was, over a course of several decades, developing a nuclear bomb, with some results, though incomplete.

I'm not going to change anybody's mind about the course of events up to either war with Iraq. I am amused by liberal-think. Some words are just hard to say and George Carlin, were he alive, could make a great routine of it.

Apparently you don't like the fact that a Sovereign country has that right. Sorry, not your call. No tap dancing required.

If you can't figure out the word BOMB from "joining the Nuclear Community", so be it. It makes no difference.

Actually I was very clear in listing the possibilities, not vague at all. "OR, they might have been trying to become part of the ever expanding Nuclear Community" is pretty specific. Only a moron would consider that vague or "euphemistic".

Apparently YOU are the only one that "knows" there was not an electrical power plant in the works. You might want to tell the IAEA who inspected them. Apparently they were looking at apparitions on a grassy knoll.

I cannot find any evidence that Iraq ever produced a kilowatt of electricity from a nuclear source. In 1981 Israel destroyed the only reactor that was close to that capability (at least as the Iraqis decribed it; Israelis believed it was a bomb making facility).

Maybe you have a source that gives information that Iraq was building nuclear power plants for electrical production which were inspected by IAEA.

Interestingly, this is the same conundrum we face with Iran today. Are they building electrical production capacity or are they going to light up the sky. And it was Iraq who destroyed Iran's early nuclear capabilty in the war between the two. Go figure.

Perhaps your very short and very selective memory for honest facts has alluded you once again...

President Says Saddam Hussein Must Leave Iraq Within 48 Hours

PBS - frontline: gunning for saddam: interviews: richard perle

USATODAY.com - Saddam was a grave threat

How many times had Iraq attacked the mainland U.S.?
How many times had Iraq promised to attack the mainland U.S.?
How many times had Iraq threatened to attack the mainland U.S.?
Did Iraq have the means required to launch a military assault upon the U.S.?
Did Iraq have the desire and determination to launch a military assault upon the U.S.?

Don't you think it's time to ignore the hysteria and figure it out for yourself? Iraq couldn't begin to defend its own borders let alone threaten ours...

You can blow smoke 'til you can't see your hand in front of your face, but genuine threat is determined by actions, not proselytization and prognostication.

Which would explain your evasion of the simple questions in the previous post. After all, irrefutable logic is no match for irrational fear.
