Police remained on the scene early Wednesday morning.
PASADENA, Texas -- Police on Wednesday were hunting for a suspect they believe targeted a Pasadena family in a deadly home invasion.

The shooting happened in the 2600 block of Burke around 7:30 p.m.

Leo Gomez, 53, and 53-year-old Milagro Vanegas were each fatally shot in the head in their bedroom.

The couple’s 16-year-old son, Leo Gomez Jr., walked in on the crime and was also shot in the head.

He survived and was Life Flighted to the hospital in critical condition.

“The suspect had a specific purpose and I don’t think they just chose this residence because it was convenient,” Pasadena Sgt. Bud Corbett said.

Corbett said the teen was tied up in a second bedroom when officers arrived at the scene. The parents also appeared to have been bound, but those ligatures were missing.

Corbett said there was no sign of forced entry at the home.

The teen had been dropped off at his home to pick up basketball equipment by two friends, who waited in their car.

They were sitting in the driveway of the home when the suspect opened the garage door and asked them to move their vehicle.

They told police they saw the man load two large plastic bags full of firearms and property into the family’s pickup truck and drive off.

That truck was later found in a church parking lot a few blocks away from the home.

"It hurts me to know like something like this has happened to him we've been friends since we were 14 years old,” said Gomez’s friend David Gonzalez, who was waiting for his pal at the basketball court. “That's all he wanted to do. Play some basketball. Just play some basketball."

Gonzalez said he is praying for his friend and his family. He is hoping his friend pulls through.

"I don't know what it's like to take a bullet to the head. Honestly he's my idol he's my soldier,” said Gonzalez.
A man matching the description of the suspect was seen loading items from the Gomez’s truck into a hunter green Chevy pickup with a hard cover cargo box. A second person was driving that vehicle.

Corbett described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 30s. He is 5’9” – 6’0” tall and has close-cut hair.

He may have a mustache, and he was seen carrying a silver semi-automatic handgun.

At the time of the crime, the suspect had his face partially covered by a green T-shirt and was wearing a red baseball cap.

Corbett said police are still canvassing the area, searching for additional witnesses.

If you know anything about this crime, contact the Pasadena Police Department.

Crime stats:

Pasadena Crime Statistics and Crime Data (Pasadena, TX)

Note the rape figures. Note Larceny and burglary, way over the national average. This ain't Scottsdale.

A couple years back, some one went into one of these homes and shot four teenagers, who were probably buying drugs from these guys, killing all of them in a professional hit job. Pasadena is one of the biggest cities in Texas in terms of square miles probably the biggest, and population about the fifth largest, and the cops have all they can do to cover it all, so these people live in a lot of fear. A little vigilante justice is occasionally called for.
I could easily present the same type of scenario in Scottsdale with tales of serial rapists, the "rock burglars" and a handful of unrelated home invasions that left multiple dead. That's crime, it happens everywhere and it's a terrible thing. But there is no scenario that excuses some pathetic yahoo for willfully and thoughtfully shooting and killing two people who were not threatening him in any way as they fled. Clearly, a lot of Texans disagree.

Erm, you might want to check those crime stats again. Pasadena does not have a single category worse that the national average, most are far better, and only one is even as bad as the national average.

It's hard to shoot them in the chest if they're climbing in a window.

Is it the sign of a civilized nation that it is constantly lowering the bar to acceptably kill fellow humans?

Yeah, your right, but we are going to shoot them anyway.
