Viva España!

Congrats to the Spaniards for beating those imperialistic Germans in a dominating performance to win the Euro 2008 Championship!

The Spanish side boasted superb midfielders; Xavi, Senna, Fabregas and perhaps the best of them all, Iniesta.

A young team, I'll look forward to seeing them in 2010 World Cup

They had tons of chances, good ones. The header that just missed, in the 10th minute I think, was an unreal chance. Great offensive pressure, despite some poor plays by Puyol and even Sergio Ramos that fortunately didn't result in goals. Casillas was scarcely challenged, but when he was, he was dominant.

overall, a fine tournament with great matches and amazing goals.

three gripes:

1. that annoying fanfare whenever a goal is scored.
2. for those in U.S. watching via ABC/ESPN, commentator Adrian Healey whose vocabulary in adjective department that was simply [only] 'scintillating'.
3. quality of officiating

Holland-France and Turkey-Czech Republic are definite keepers.

Remarkably poor officiating for such an important tournament. I still hate the predilection of most European players to over-act and fall down in agony at every little bump, but was happy to see virtually none of that from Germany. La Liga is a lot of fun to watch, except for the drama. Sadly, we no longer get THAT channel either, thanks to the fuckers at Dish 86'ing the Voom networks.

wait till you see CONCACAF competition or particularly Copa America (South American Championship) coverage for over the top theatrics.

One reason I do not respect Cristiano Ronaldo is despite his skills, once he finds himself and his team in an uphill battle, he resorts to dives and acting. In the quarterfinal against Germany, that writhing in pain antic he demonstrated after a 1/2 second delay, the time it took for him to confirm that the ref was looking his way, is simply disgusting.

Also, at the Champions League finals, he 'balked' as he delivered his penalty kick in order to make the keeper jump before he kicked the ball - his shot was denied anyway.

As long as the cheating fucker keeps his cheating ways, I am happy at every turn to see him fail. I still savor the moment that fuckface sobbed uncontrollably in the Euro final 4 years ago when Portugal fell to Greece - then again, that might have been a calculated action designed to shift the blame onto his teammates.
