Back when I was a child, "Enduro" related to a type of race series. The Enduro races were mainly off-road but had some on-road sections. The bikes therefore had to be off-road capable but also street legal hence the headlights and turn signals. They were shod with "Trials Universal" tires that were a semi-knobby compromise between street and dirt. Needless to say, because of all the compromises, the Enduro bikes did neither street nor dirt very well.
My first bike was a Yamaha 175 Enduro. I tried teaching myself off roading at the construction sites on weekends but spent a lot of time laying on my back with the wheel going around on my chest. After riding it about 3 months I got hit by a car while on the way to work. I remember that as I was sailing through the air, just before hitting the pavement thinking: "This SOB is going to buy me a new bike and this time I'm getting a street bike."
