Old Weber is beyond repair. I have replaced virtually everything on the grill except the stand, firebox and pivoting cover. It is over 10 years old and is used all year 'round. Last set of cooking grates I bought are the stainless steel cast items and they are holding up but the firebox is rotten and the "flavor bars" and burner supports are gone.
I am a cheap sob when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I went to Home Depot and Lowe's. Seems everything comes from China now, even Weber models.
So, I checked the web. US made stuff, even some Webers it seems are still made in the US but I have a hard time confirming that, is generally more expensive. Usually stainless steel, and usually with a few extra features. I have been reading about
- American Outdoor Grills (US made)
- Napoleon Grills (made in Canada)
- Weber (US made - most models?)
Anyone with any of these stainless steel units and opinions? They seem to come with items like infra-red cooking features that I have no idea what they are. Never used a rotisserie either.
No hurry, I can patch my old Weber to cook for the wife and myself, the thing just doesn't work over most of the surface anymore.
I can cough up a few more bucks for something made in the US, if it is worth the premium. Long time between purchases and the range of selections are confusing. Jim
