In that case, take a pair of hiking boots and go climb up the trail (Nu'uanu Pali?) up the mountains behind Honolulu.

You'd be walking along the razor's edge ridge like the pic below, but if you start in the morning, you have no idea as fog shrouds the area and sometimes, you'd be walking in low cloud. Around noon when the wind changes, the fog and clouds dissipate and you will see an amazing panorama of Honolulu and the North Shore, that's when you realize "Oh shit! I've been walking on that (and now I've got to go down on that)?"

Now that I gave it away, it won't be as shocking, but the view remains just as amazing.

When I visited in the 70's, one could barely get to the memorial due to all the Japanese tourists. I couldn't understand the language but you kind of got the sense that the experience for them was similar to something a person of Lakota or Northern Cheyenne descent visiting the memorials at Greasy Grass Creek (Little Bighorn) might feel (except it was the other way around as far as who was the aggressor).
