I'm in IT. Weeks when we do major upgrades are painful. The last one we had was 100 hours over 6 days (90 for some of the guys).
We had an issue way, way back with one of our critical Unix systems (that wasn't being administered well at all). That was 50 hours straight at one clip, and over 100 hours in total. After about the 36th hour you realize you're completely useless, but someone has to be on the phone with support. At the 48th hour, the tank is totally empty. I was a little nervous driving home.
50+ hour weeks aren't that unusual at all, but they are tough. When someone says "Man, I'm working 60 hour (or 80 hour) weeks!", I kind of roll my eyes. It's very, very difficult and draining to do 5 straight 12-hour days. That's not something one brags about if they've actually done it.
I had a guy tell me once "I worked 137 hours last week." I almost said "It was nice knowing you". 7 days of 20 hours working will *kill you dead*.
