One entire hospital? With health care that "sucks"? You got me, I completely misunderstood the fantastic health care system available to the poor. Is that just TN or would every state have something equally generous and comprehensive?

Another huge factual misrepresentation in that original article is that it is "Health Canada" that makes these decisions. It isn't. Each province has its own health care bureaucracy, and each province has different things that are and are not covered. It is unfortunate that the standard of care is not equal from province to province. But there is no one body with the oversight to make these decisions on a national basis.

As far as getting paying for US treatment is concerned, one of my wife's co-workers just had a $400,000 cancer surgery approved. She's going with the surgeon in Maryland because he pioneered the procedure and has far more surgeries under his belt than the surgeon in Calgary (that's in Canada, just so you know) has performed. The Calgary operation would have run about $290,000 so the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) is knowingly paying $110,000 more because the standard of care is better.

That is a good question. TNNcare is out source to private companies. However I never heard of the private companies that got the TNcare contracts. I do know that some of the TNcare companies were created by people who had a family member in a government position. In the stock market, it would be call inside trading.

The contracts should be giving to existing companies with over 20 years of healthcare insurance experience.

"they want "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance—88% say yes."

So that 88% should just pray harder, then who needs private or public healthcare?

Healthcare for the remaining 12% rationalists shouldn't be too taxing, should it?

I do know that my coworkers from Canada do prefer getting medical treatment in the states. Some treatments in Canada are based on age; like a heart transplant. Some services in Canada have a waiting list. The younger people have preference over the older people. The older people would pay for organ transplants in the US, because they do not have time to wait in Canada.

We do have one hospital in Memphis that does not require you to have health insurance and does not require you to pay if you qualify. The illegal aliens take advantage of the hospital. If you are a resident of TN and have TNcare, you can go to any hospital. TNcare is health insurance for the poor in TN.

Are you recommending Walmart or McDonalds? Happy Meal with each liposuction.

We, as a country have tried providing low income citizens with insurance in the past with Commercial investment. HMOs and managed care facilities were all the rage during the Reagan 80s. Of course after all the scandals and bailouts and bankruptcies much of the shiny glow of success had dimmed.

Any time you set up a system where "low income" "free" and "profit margins" intersect, "FAILURE" will be the end result. That is simply a fact of life. It has been tried, it has failed.

At work I can choose from 3 different health insurance companies. My company writes a check out to the company I select. So I do not understand why the goverment cannot do the same as my company would do for health insurance.

When I was a teacher my family health care insurance premium was $958 a month after employer contribution while my salary was $24,356.00 a year. Oh all this and I had a $40 copay for regular visits and we had to go on a waiting list if we needed anything from something that was plugged in to electricity.
Remember when I hit my head with a plank of wood? I posted about it on BWOT when I was in the emergency room while waiting for over SIX HOURS to be seen. How's that for service for the money I paid? I will take the Canadian system any day even if I had to wait for shit because here I would still wait wait and cough it up anyway.
