I believe Carter blew a wonderful opportunity. I understand that he wanted to make a difference and create peace in the region. And I understand the legitimate argument from Egypt and Jordan that led to the payoff scheme. The problem is that Carter didn't go far enough. His failure IMO, was not setting up a schedule to wean these three countries off our support over a period of say, twenty years. He could have done it right there and then, they all would signed off on it.
Yep. And now it looks like it's going to be an albatross of good intentions run-amok, like the stupid arrangement we have concerning Cuba.
Whatever happened to that brief frenzy to enact sunset laws? Guess they followed the sun faster than the laws they were supposed to eclipse.
The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thatís what I intend to reverse.
