Iraq at odds with US over troop presence beyond 2008

Think this will help McCain to get elected if the public think he can stay...........

Iraq at odds with US over troop presence beyond 2008

The Iraqi government Tuesday said it had a "different vision" from the US over the deployment of American troops in the country beyond 2008 and vowed not to compromise national sovereignty.

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said the cabinet discussed the proposed Status of Forces Agreement which is scheduled to be concluded by next month and agreed that Iraq's national interests must be protected.

"A joint vision on this issue is yet to be achieved between the two sides, and ... the Iraqi side has a different vision, and it will not undercut or be negligent towards Iraqis' rights and sovereignty," Dabbagh said.

National sovereignty? The Iraqis must be joking right? It's not up to them, they will have to take it up with Israel if they want sovereignty but I doubt the latter will oblige. Game is over, we're here to stay and "serve".

it all depends on the next administration... this got screwed up so bad I can see a massive pull out being at the top of the list. The majority of the populace wants out of Iraq and the new administration has to do something to restore confidence, that and it's the easiest way to try and get the massive budget deficit under control. If we're not spending a billion a day, it's much easier to try and get back to black.

The Iraqi's putting their foot down and kicking everyone's asses out is the ONLY way I can see McCain being successful in office. Doesn't matter how smart or beneficial anything else on his agenda sounds, the 100 year comment is indelibly etched in my mind as a symbol of all that is wrong with American foreign policy - and he embodies it. I pray they castrate him and his warped view of what role the military should serve by sending us packing in about 6 months.

Unfortunately with the way things are right now, it's not up to us to decide and pack our shit out of that place. Until we hear a real answer about why we are in Iraq in the first place (Germanstar got real close) that will be the deciding and controlling factor. It looks like our government "answers to a higher authority", most of us just can't pinpoint what it is
