Sounds logical, who would have thought that maintaining and driving $60k car would actually cost money. In the case of the Ferrari forum even worse. I guess some people just need something to bitch about, (The entire OT forum).

Its like "They" always say, " If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it."

Yesterday I purchased a new Honda VTX-1300, which is essentially styled after the Harley Road King, the difference being the Honda doesn't break down all the time. It has a water-cooled 1300 cc V-TWIN, which means it will produce more power, give better MPG and last longer than the Harley standard 80-cubic engine. It's a big cruiser and it is a dream to drive.

I will be adding it to my stable of two-wheeled transportation, which now consists of a KYMCO 250 Peoplemover scooter that gets 110 mpg, again with a water-cooled 250 cc that puts out 60% more power than an air cooled 250, will not melt the engine when stuck in city traffic, and has a top speed of 85 mph, and will cruise nicely at 65. I love the fucking thing. It is the real machine for the times, a very comfortable high-performance scooter, with plenty of storage space under the seat, the frigging thing is like a car trunk. It is responsive and zippy fast on the city streets. Get one!

Next is my 2004 Sportster, which has been totally rebuilt after it and some guy in a white pickup tried to kill me one night. It's all souped up and it is absolutely the best handling at high speeds heavy sports-bike I've ever ridden, and when it runs right it is an absolute joy to drive. But it has crapped out and left me on the side of the road twice before it had even 4,000 miles on it. Harley, after improving and getting big kudos from the press over quality improvements, is for some unexplainable reason going back into the shitter. I've heard numerous complaints from new Harley buyers, and at the root of it is the air-cooled V twin's days are over. Harley just keep making the thing bigger and bigger, they are up to 110 cubes now, and the added heat is making the bikes less reliable.

So I am riding the scooter to work and back each day, going from a $60 fillup to about eight bucks. I'm riding the big Honda cruiser all weekend, going from burning about $40 to about ten bucks. And if I feel like going to a bar and stabbing somebody, I ride the Harley. The 280SL now just goes for occasional rides to the beach. My 2006 Toyata Tundra pickup, as bad a gas hog as any Ford or Chevy 1/2 ton, is sitting in the driveway a lot. My 90 Honda Accord with 102,000 miles on it goes out on rainy days. I am having a hard time on deciding on selling my 93 Escort wagon, which looks like shit now but runs great and gets great mpg with the 5 spd (it is actually a Mazda protege) is starting to look like a worthwhile restoration project.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

penny wise and pound foolish...

in all seriousness the biggest thing I try to do to save a little on gas is to only ever fill the tank to 1/2, keep the tire pressures up, windows closed and the car empty of all "crap". This setup provides a noticeable difference in gas mileage on the w210.

I bought a Scangauge II and plugged it in. I went from 28 mpg to 31 just by watching the fuel economy average numbers while driving. Jim
