Wexler: McClellan Must Testify Under Oath Before House Judiciary Committee
Former White House Aide's Revelations Make Out Case for Obstruction of Justice by Rove and Libby in Valerie Plame Case

(Washington, DC) Today Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) called for former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to testify under oath regarding the devastating revelations made in his new book on the Bush Administration’s deliberate efforts to mislead the American people into the Iraq War.

“The admissions made by Scott McClellan in his new book are earth-shattering and allege facts to establish that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby – and possibly Vice President Cheney - conspired to obstruct justice by lying about their role in the Plame Wilson matter and that the Bush Administration deliberately lied to the American people in order to take us to war in Iraq. Scott McClellan must now appear before the House Judiciary Committee under oath to tell Congress and the American people how President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and White House officials deliberately orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people.”

“The allegations by this former top White House aide – that Rove and Libby deliberately coordinated their stories in order to obstruct justice in the Plame case, that the President deliberately disregarded contradictory evidence related to Iraq, should outrage every American and Congress must respond by initiating immediate aggressive oversight starting with an appearance by McClellan before the House Judiciary Committee. Any continued obstruction by this Administration to prevent White House officials from appearing before Congress cannot be tolerated by this Congress in the face of these shocking revelations.”

Congressman Wexler has led a nationwide campaign in favor of holding impeachment hearings for Vice-President Dick Cheney. Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Judiciary Committee.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

I am glad to see someone in Congress realizes this is not chickenshit anymore. This is about as serious as it gets and the reaction by Congress is critical to retaining an America that was within the vision of the Founding Fathers. Discovering and then ignoring evidence that the President was purposely misleading the American people, their elected representatives and the rest of the world to promote some private agenda is hardly a government of the people and by the people, and for the people. Bush deserves to be held in complete disdain by the nation, along with Cheney and the rest of the cabal he had running the country. Jim

But there is no point in investigating this until the Bush lackeys are purged from our justice system. Initiate criminal investigations, sure, but wait until next January.

Hell, I am concerned he may leave the country to escape prosecution...and screw the lackeys, they are likely to become witnesses once this situation starts to unravel. Impeach him now, I am sick of the election coverage and don't look forward to another 5 months of that blabber on the news shows with "the best political" asswipes in the world, universe, solar system and whatever. A good impeachment ceremony would be a great distraction for the summer. Might even skip us over the conventions. Jim

I am curious to see how this evolves and what kind of spins the Bush apologists on this forum will come up with? Will some stick to their guns like Jayhawk would? Will some switch camps and pretend that they don't care like Bot would? what would the bottimelines and multipurposes be preaching while squirming? We got some interesting times ahead of us.

So, you just want to see some hearings mixed in with Congressional subpoena no-shows and an Attorney General who refuses to prosecute? What's the point? Or are you afraid that the 08 Congress will be even more spineless than this one?

This is something that the public cannot sink its teeth into. It is still not a blow job. I bet the public will yawn out of ignorance.

You have a point, and if there is someone with the guts to get this started now, well, I don't see why we should wait. And that AG should be given the cell next to Bush and Gonzales and Cheney and Rummy and Rice.....

The AG has little choice in the matter of an impeachment ceremony or proceeding. But he can be a cooperative contributor or he can be an obstacle and if he obstructs he should be given the same treatment. I think once the situation is clear he will cooperate. This stonewall is must come down. Jim

This isn't about impeachment, these guys will be gone in a few months anyways, it's about criminal investigations, and a Bush lackey AG could put quite a damper on that. Remember Alberto Gonzales? That asshole basically declared that members of the Bush administration were above the law.
