They play hard down here, too. Tee ball teams with 5 or 6 coaches.
The shortstop was the unlucky recipient of the result of this swing when the ball caught him high on the chest just under the throat. Coaches ran over and determined the fielder was OK to stay in. I'm afraid if it was my kid, I'd have yanked him out and been halfway to the hospital for X rays before the inning was over. Kids die in their sleep from that kind of a shot to the chest/throat area.
I watched him for the rest of the inning as he kept rubbing the spot of impact but then the game was over and I lost him in the crowd. Hope he was OK.
Texas. Where else?
Hit the strip joints in Beaumont.
Ride out a way east to Sulphur/Lake Charles, pick any restaurant that looks like it used to be a house, and eat the best damn food you ever ate in your life, and after dinner ride into Lake Charles and have fun gambling your kid's college away.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
