You're not suggesting that supporting a dramatic expansion of the sphere and influence of our federal government contradicts a philosophy that upholds principles of individual liberty and minimizes the role of that same government, are you? 'Cause that's jez crazy.

You're not suggesting that only one characteristic defines libertarianism, are you? 'Cause that's jez crazy.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thatís what I intend to reverse.

There are small disagreements and then there are deal-breakers. This strikes me a deal-breaker of immense proportion. It clearly strikes you differently...

Seems like a BF'n huge deal-breaker, given that it not only vastly expands the size and reach of the guv, but also represents a massive drain on taxpayers, all the while offering zippo in the form of national security; which is of course what a military is supposed to be supporting in the first place. It is in fact, anti-libertarian to the core

2. Neither. Theocracies are evil. The method by which a theocracy stays in power is trivial.

You define the terms of what a libertarian is? I didn't know that.

To me, it is about economics and freedom.

Now that's not quite accurate, either, though I grant you that not all Sunni-dominated societies are theocracies. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Jordan, Libya, etc. Those countries display quite a large variety of governments, from quite democratic (Turkey) to absolute military dictatorships (Libya).

I suspect that in both your statement & mine was an implicit assumption that we were talking about Arab Sunnis. The clan system is very-much entwined, I believe inextricably, with their religion. I'm willing to bet that no major decision is made that doesn't quote scripture as supporting legal authority.

This scriptural dependency for legal authority is the source of a great deal of friction with modern secular societies and secularists.

Worse, if two theocracies have a fundamentally different message from God then they simply cannot compromise without betraying their faiths.

They are freaking insane, IMO. Depending on some sky entity, bands of invisible angels and djinn for justice is way too stone-age.
