Hillary's Secret Weapon in Kentucky

The secret is out, Hillary has a secret weapon in Kentucky to give her a projected 25-30 point advantage over Obama. Up until today it was just a rumor, an urban legend, a myth but this afternoon, the evidence showed itself.

So I was heading to Office Max at 8:30 to get yet another replacement part for the desk that I am trying to assemble. Seems tapping machine threads that are 1) straight, 2) round and 3) of a standard size is a bit too much to ask.

So instead of going down to the shop, getting a standard 6-32 tap I had to go to Office Max to get a new bracket that had straight, round 6-35 threads. Who do I run into but the Michele Obama party of 6000 next door. Secret Service, local cops, TV and a suburban mall parking lot full of supporters. Who knew??

In contrast, I drove by the funeral that was Transylvania University where Hillary was speaking an hour earlier and there were about 500.

Hillary will probably be victorious in KY for the same reasons she was in WV. Some political analyst spelled them out but I don't remember them in enough detail to relate them here. A couple of them were that both states share a high proportion of "undereducated" people and unemployment is high. Why these characteristics would favor one democrat over another is beyond my comprehension.

That is the thing that surprises me also. I had dinner with one of the pollsters for the Kentucky Democratic Party this evening and she pretty much came out and said it is racism on some levels. The less education and less income, race [or some level of Affirmative Action] may have been more of an influence in your life. I know that I do see that when I travel back to the mountains. It is somewhat subtle, but it is still there.

Eighteen months ago, had someone told me that we would have been down to Hillary and Obama and that Hillary would have been the blue collar choice and Obama labeled an elitist I would have thought then crazy. I am still shocked that race issues are bubbling just below the surface in the 21 Century. That tells me much about the maturity of this country.

^ For what it's worth, those of us who grew up outside Appalachia have a far easier time recognizing how prevalent racism still is in century 21. Appalling, yes - shocking, not so much. Given the results in West Virginia, I frankly find it difficult to believe Kentucky is so much different.

Hey McBear,

You said the word I was hesitant to, and that is racism. I think you hit the nail on the head there. I forgot for the moment that this is the Off Topic forum and we can "tell it like it is" on here. Thanks for the feedback my friend.
