QBNCGAR,

Your point is noted, and I think very true regarding Appalachia.

As far as Racism in Appalachia, I really don't know that it is more prevalent here than some other places. I really think that it tends to be hand in hand with levels of education.

I have lived in a bunch of different parts of the country and have seen trucks with Rebel flags in each and every one of them. While I understand the "states rights" and "southern independence" arguments that go with that flag, I do find that entirely too many time it is attached to someone's car, house or flagpole that is not quite living in the 21st Century.

If we are lucky, the best worst thing from this election will be that folks will see that racism is still alive in this country and will finally do something about it, from all sides.

And now tomorrow, for the first Kentucky Primary since 1964, our votes will actually mean something. Usually we are so far down the calendar that the race is decided long before the third week in May.

That was my point, kinda. In other parts of the country, there is a larger minority population in urban centers, which seems to bring much of those sub-surface racial proclivities to light in everyday interactions.

Sure.

Though I would hope "prefer the policies of others" would be your first choice.

So instead of going down to the shop, getting a standard 6-32 tap I had to go to Office Max to get a new bracket that had straight, round 6-35 threads. Who do I run into but the Michele Obama party of 6000 next door. Secret Service, local cops, TV and a suburban mall parking lot full of supporters. Who knew??

In contrast, I drove by the funeral that was Transylvania University where Hillary was speaking an hour earlier and there were about 500 I was low on this one .
Normally I don't quote my own quotes but this one is different as it has relevance.

I saw the two rallies unfold last night here in Lexington, one with the Clintons and the other with Michelle Obama. I was stuck in traffic for both. I talked with DES friends at the site of both rallies. Some interesting observations

Of the Clinton Rally
The Clive Auditorium holds 1500 people. When I was there at 6:45 [near the end of the rally] it was not full. There were not people outside other than the Cops, Secret Service, Media and about thirty Paulettes [????]. The DES guy and I guessed between 500-1000. Local media put the number at 1500 and that might be right as the crowd might have wandered through from the 4:30-6:30 range. Some National Media have been putting the number as high as 2500-3000 which is double the capacity of the facility and there would not even be parking for folks.

Of the Obama Rally
The Obama HQ is in a suburban mall, the smallish kind with room for 1000 cars in the lot. It was slammed and every car was filled. The DES guy at that rally put the estimate at 2000-3000 inside and the outside was just as crowded. Crowd control WAS a problem. Media estimated the numbers at 1000-2000, with one putting the number at just 500.

Now I will defend the media when it is doing its job and reporting facts but last night I saw both rallies up close and personal and saw the difference. I was very taken by surprise when I read the numbers put out by the various media today.

Oh, and the piece that I got for my desk worked so Mission Accomplished. I was Appeased.
