I looked at allroad two years ago prior to settling with Element.
Snips (remember him?) recommended that I stay away from the bi-turbo 2.7T. It's indeed sweet but very thirsty. The local gas price finally went north of $4 per gallon for regular. Many of the used allroads had tremendous amount of sludge in their engines (unscrew the oil cap and see its underside) - I don't know if this is typical of the engines, but instinct told me to stay away.
Also, the height adjustable suspension adds to the complexity and weight of the vehicle. Perhaps A6 Avant on which allroad is based upon with a 3.2 V6 might be more reliable - spend the difference on fancier option you can add to the A6.
