The only thing liberalism hates worse than greedy corporations is reducing any tax. What they fear is starting a trend they can't stop.
So what does this proposed "tax vacation" or its opponents have to do with liberalism?
Both Democrats and Republicans [with the exception of McCain and Clinton] appear to be against it. Nobody thinks it is a good idea and the only reason it gets press is that it makes good ratings.
Just remember who raised the amount of taxes the most over the past quarter century. Who increased the size of government the most. Who increased the Federal Budget the most. Who increased the Federal Debt the most. Who increased the Trade Deficit the most.
I believe you will find that LIBERALISM had little to do with all of those excesses. But don't let facts get in the way of a good bias.

I mentioned trend and guess what? We have some governors now who want to temporarily drop state gas taxes!
It's not going to change my life either way. What's fun is listening to the left argue over dropping taxes.
I suppose the best answer to all your rhetorical questions is, "whoever was in office up to the point." If you have a whole bunch of new-found data, why not share it? Sorry, didn't see any facts in your post I could feel bad about.
Remember that lower tax rates raise tax collections, so be clear about which one you are describing.

I hadn't realized that liberalism has achieved sentience--amazing
Maybe it hasn't, but certainly there are essential principles in action. Similar to Islamism, for example, when it blows up in your face you can recognize it clearly.
The problem is that gas taxes are too low. Tax the shit out of the stuff, build lots of bike trails and mass transit.
No politician will touch this, there simply aren't enough courageous ones that will tell the people to take mass transit and get lean biking. Most voters are fat people that live in the suburbs with three cars and can't go anywhere without driving. We are talking about a major life style change and loss of a way of life that has been ingrained in these people since the end of WWII.
It will take vision, courage and a lot of work to make people WALK to a bus stop, wait, pay a fair and sometimes have to stand or sit next to someone they think is going to rape them. don't ask me how do I know because I always seem to get a seat and have the ones next to me stay empty even if the bus is full, I just don't know why, anyway back to the subject mass transit will need competent management and operation which is not the case in most cities in our country. This means we must look into this as a new science rather than patching.
