You gotta give him something for longevity. We used to listen to him back in college. 30 years ago.

First saw John at the Student Union at UW-Milwaukee, must have been '72. I had only heard of him via a small article in "Rolling Stone" - no records out at that point. He did what turned out to be his first two albums, plus a few more. The crowd was really into it, but finally he said "I'm outta beer and just about outta songs, so this one is IT!" Fabulous! Saw him many times over the years, with different kinds of bands (or lack thereof), and he was always stimulating and very interesting and extremely enjoyable. He played here at a 1000 seat theater just about two years ago and was still excellent, although the cancer effects were there for all to see. By the way, when he was here last, a guy named Paul Thorn opened for him - very nice songs, a great pairing with Mr. Prine. "It's a half a inch a water and you think you're gonna drown, but that's the way that the world goes round..."

"Someday you will die somehow and something's gonna steal your carbon."
