As we speak, there is an argument raging about the relative merits of Mercedes vs. BMW on a MS Windows board.

Thanks. Could you see if the full featured ESRI & ERDAS products are available for Mac.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

I think with all things PC / Windows, your experience is dependent upon the vendor you select. Same OS that works great on Dell (for example) will be total shit on an Acer (for example).

Apple's paradigm is completely the opposite, and it has no such issues. Their problem is that they're disinterested in enterprises (which is only a problem for enterprise customers), and they still lag behind in legacy software support. That said, most of the major players are there. MS Office, Quickbooks, Adobe, yada yada...plus, the iLife suite that comes pre-installed is a remarkable value.

Oh, and you can get "dazzling" performance from a 20" iMac starting at around $1,200. $2,200 gets you the following:

3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
500GB hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive (means DVD burner)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS with 512MB memory (woof!)

Tell you what, with Quickbooks and Dreamweaver already open on your desktop (I also had WIS open, but I'm sure you won't have that), open Photoshop v10 (first time since last boot) and tell me how long it takes to load... It was one of your Mac buddies who threw down the challenge... Show me whatcha got!

Not that it matters, I will never leave the PC environment in which the 24 commercial applications I authored will run.*

* As a side, a couple of these apps actually won't run on Vista, which astonishingly enough, doesn't support some earlier MS programming languages (oh, the irony)

^ I don't burden myself with most of those applications, so I can't give you an "Apples to Apples" test...hardy har har.

That said, Macbook Pro systems (like the one I use) have been consistently found to run WinXP and Vista faster than comparably equipped Wintel systems. Go figure.

You know, I'm just a live and let live guy -- whatever makes you happy is what's right for you -- but every time someone starts a thread asking something that's PC-related, a hoard of uninvited miscreant mac-weenies with nothing constructive to offer show up to tout their immeasurable superiority, and snicker and sneer at the ignorant pc dumb-fuck dickless piss-ants. Since Cuban started this thread, he is excused from that description, but the rest of you know who you are.

Where is Z? This thread could use a healthy dose of pork-jello fuck-knuckles about now.
