Actually I head this has all been started by 2 things, 1 the main reason is that the rice production this past year has been shit in Australia, can't remember why either flooding or drought but it fucked their rice production big time and they are one of the world's largest producers of rice. So they limited the amount they export hence all of the Asian rice producers have as well limited or stopped rice export to keep the costs low for their own citizens.
The 2nd reason I read was that due to a more wealthy lower and middle class in China and India and their rice consumption has increased as well.
The 3rd reason is that red beans and rice has become popular again among the Mercedes crowd on the Eastern Shore of Maryland............
