Snow Job

Former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow joins CNN
Posted: 04:08 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former White House press secretary Tony Snow will join CNN as a conservative commentator beginning Monday.

CNN president Jon Klein announced that Snow, a long-time political observer with a longstanding news background, will contribute to CNN as the network continues to broadcast winning political coverage.

Snow most recently served as press secretary to President Bush. For 10 years, beginning in 1996, he appeared on Fox News Channel as the host of Fox News Sunday, Weekend Live with Tony Snow and other programs. Before joining Fox, Snow served as a substitute "From the Right" co-host for CNN's Crossfire.

Snow has also been a newspaper writer, radio host and columnist, and a speechwriter in the administration of the first President Bush.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thats what I intend to reverse.

He had said that his main motivation for leaving the Press Secretary post was financial (he couldn't subsist on the meager wages). Gotta admire his candor.

He rejoins the list of political operatives that slip easily between the commissariat of right-thinking information (also known as "the media") and the executive branch of federal government. The pantheon includes Russert, Stephapolous, Rove, and others. This should wonderfully improve the "news" perspective.

It seems to me that some of these guys (TV guys in particular) are paid to provide a particular perspective, while others are there to promote their own point of view. Case in point is Tucker Carlson, who at one time was paid to promote an entirely right-wing perspective for CNN, then promoted his own perspective for MSNBC. His first engagement was substantially more successful than his second. I'm not sure what that says about the televised news media and its audience, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing good...

I've heard Tony Snow speak his mind on a couple of occasions after he left his WH position, and he was, not unexpectedly, a very different guy.

I hate that the media makes room for the people whose job it was to manipulate the media.

It's like outlawing prostitution and hiring prostitutes as barmaids in men's clubs. Sure and it's true that they may never turn another trick.

Does it really matter that much? I mean, one more turd tossed atop a 10 foot heap isn't likely to smell much worse than it already does. We both know that most folks who tune into these types of 'news' offerings aren't looking to be informed as much as they want validation. We all like this guy or that guy best because he tends to agree with us more than the others. My Tucker Carlson example is just that, an example of a lesson that has been well taught on all levels -- give the people what they want, or lose to someone who will. In other words, feel free to voice your opinion as long as it's popular. If it isn't popular, voice an opinion that is. Face it, they're all prostitutes, and some are more talented than others.

I have always liked Tony Snow...before and after his stint at the White House. He often calls in to our local news station WLS-AM in the morning and I enjoy his viewpoint.

Oh well theres my 2 cents.
