You guys have the burdening legacy of a highly stratified, class-based society. Not to say it hasn't loosened up tremendously since your revolution and especially since the late 19th/early 20th century labor movement forced even more much-needed change. Even so, your politics cannot help but be entwined with class consciousness. Our worst expression of that is race-based and it is still hanging on us like dog shit on our shoes: Everybody wishes it would go away but nobody wants to touch it.
The closest thing we have to a political expression of your political parties & class distinction is the Republican (mostly white and comparatively few non-white) vs Democrat (mostly white with a larger proportion of non-whites).
Those 2 parties used to be different in terms of money -- our nearest thing (after race) to class distinction. But that has changed remarkably over the past 10-20 years. I doubt there's much difference in median or mean income between the 2 parties, but most people think that Repos have more money.
Currently the Democrat Party is raising far more money than the Republican Party. This is compelling evidence that in the United States, money follows political power to a greater degree than the reverse.
The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thatís what I intend to reverse.
