Again, I presume much.

Patience, Drew. It is what you will need. She will ask you the same question 20 times. Answer it every time as if it was the first. As for being scared, there's an initial shock if you aren't prepared but don't procrastinate. It absolutely will not get better and you will miss out on time that is still meaningful to her and therefore, to you.

Go and be her son.

Every time I arrive at my Sister's house, I walk up to my Mother with a big smile and say, "Hi, Mommy! I'm your son, Tom." That way she doesn't have to guess who I am. Then I tell her the same thing every few minutes just to keep her in the loop.

I give her a son's best kiss and whisper in her ear, "That's good stuff!" and she giggles every time. We sing songs from my childhood that she still remembers better than I do. Not much else to talk about anymore. She remembers so little...mostly from her youth which is the last to go according to the doctors.

Sorry for the hijack, Shane. Getting hard to type. Fingers slipping on the wet keyboard.

A smart friend of mine always told me we are children twice in life. I do believe he is very correct and as long as there is no physical pain or mental anguish who are we to judge what is correct or inferior? Balancing life is something we all must do, giving back what we were given is not only right it is absolutely necessary.

Anyway, I always leave the spouse thingy blank and then of course get to "nearest relative other than spouse" and almost put in the usual. Then stopped. Started to cry. I always put my dad's name in as a matter of habit, but I had to stop. My dad cannot complete a sentence. He falls out of bed at night and cannot get back up. He is forgetting his best friend's names and faces. You can imagine what he is suffering from. Mom can barely manage to take care of him and she is heartbroken; cries every other time over the phone. They have been married 57 years.

This is not a pity session, my dad deserves more than that. He served in Korea, fought in the Golden Gloves, always wore a suit everyday, raised a wonderful and appreciative family, and was my mother's greatest love. A great, even tempered man who loved cars and passed that innocuous passion onto his youngest son.

All this from a stupid patient registration form....
I'm from a large family, by present American standards. One of my sibs is homosexual and has been in a stable, loving relationship for a decade or so. We have been pressing her to legally formalize her relationship -- in this state, without a legal document, she has no survivors rights and would potentially have to go to court with the legal next of kin. That is a travesty.

If I remember correctly, you have been in a stable relationship for several years. Have you made a legal commitment? You and your lover wont last forever, illness happens and the courts don't give a shit unless it's in writing, with witnesses. Get off your sorry ass and get it done.

Sorry about your Dad. Mine passed when I was a teenager and I still miss him.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

We have been together for 15 years. I have absolutely no regrets. We are happy to not do a legal commitment because we both are closet Jews. (heh, heh)

I feel fortunate all things considered and I know my dad does as well. It has all been good. I wish the same for you, you appear to deserve as much.

I was gonna call you a fag but perhaps anti-semite will suffice.
