A fucking wolf. To be truthful go to your SPCA first. You just might find something you adore.

Got me a couple of hybrids - miniature poodle x golden retriever. Fell in love with the first one, then got a puppy for my puppy. But I'm nuckin futs. Basically a mutt but don't tell him - he thinks he's a Dood!

Of course, the perfect dog was followed by the devil incarnate (same Mom, next litter):

If there's a specific breed you really want, look into the rescue organizations for that breed.

If you are near water and want a loyal and protective friend, consider a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Very dominant and they require training but they are built for cold weather and water. Be advised that many do end up with rescue organizations since they are handful and pick one family member as the dominant one and everyone else is an equal (or less!).

Check these dogs out but notice that a lot of them mention the need to be "Chessie savvy'.

Buddy
A handsome 4 year old neutered male, brown, about 90 pounds. Buddy is fearful of new people, so will take a while to warm up. He lost his home thru no fault of his own - his man's job took him out of the country and there was no place for Buddy. Buddy would benefit from a strong chessie-wise man who will understand his attitude and need for socializing plus some obedience training. He loves a game of ball and is definitely looking for his own place in life now. Yes, he has a soft mouth - will sit nicely for his meals and cookies - there is great hope for this boy! For info, contact Jane Peabody, Chesapeake Safe Harbor, 207-529-4511, jpeabody@gwi.net.

This is a very cool breed. One of these pulled me around a lake (all 255# of me) by a rope all afternoon last summer. Never got tired. I honestly think he enjoyed it.
