the (few) Shia that I know believe themselves to be the true Muslims and the Sunna believers are the heretics. That is the nature of heresy -- both sides believe themselves to be true to the path -- whatever that path is. Christians have been hacking and stabbing each other for a couple thousand years and they still cannot agree on what a Christian is or is not.
Agree. I claim that we are
the Muslims simply because we follow the Islam the way Muhammed and his companions did. We haven't added any sacred text nor consider anybody sacred, especially no sacred imams.

Islam Question and Answer - The status of the imams of the Ithna ‘Ashari Shi’ah
There's a story that a Muslim (sunni) entered a husseiniya full of shia without taking off his shoes. Shia told him to respect the place and leave his shoes outside. "But Muhammed, peace be upon him, never took off his shoes when he visited a shiite husseiniya ", he said. "How come?", they replied. "There were no shia at the times of the Prophet Muhammed". "That's right", he replied. "There were only Muslims, quite unlike you".
I think you answered my question with great lucidity
I hope so. Please note that Muslims have nothing against anybody unless they're attacked. Personally, I never had an issue against shia until the invasion of Iraq unveiled the amount of hatred some of them have against us and how it materialized into crimes against humanity committed against their closest neighbours. I meet people of many ethnic and religious backgrounds and find it interesting. I don't judge people by their beliefs (nor their colour, race, taste in cars
, etc.). Muslims believe only Allah judges people and He judges them in the Afterlife. But I always like to defend Islam when it's attacked as an ideology and I would love to see people understand it the pure way it is.
Most Muslims of whatever sect are like anybody else: They want to live in peace and raise a family. And just like the rest of us there is some knucklehead out there who feels a need to tell other people what to do.
