This thread is too negative and ugly. This should help:

eBay Find Of The Day: Mercedes-Benz C 1000 Race Car - German Car Scene

..

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Mercedes has taken the Italian thing far enough as well, the Italians are not the style center of the universe, North America still is in cars and clothing, and most all consumer got to haves; we have the most consumers, at least until China spreads the wealth better. Audi is staying true to their design tradition but the large grill doesn't work due to bumper restrictions in most of the world. Porsche is styling everything right as far as I am concerned, now about their long term reliability... Ferrari's are getting just flat ugly after doing so well just ten years ago. Everyone is copying Lexus in the luxury market so why not get the Lexi? Please note they are not copying based on style they are copying based on sales and engineering.

When it comes to engineering, Lexus beat Benz all hands down. But the Lexus badge simply does not do it for me, give me the star anytime and at any costb

If you had the misfortune to be in an accident, which would you rather be in, a Mercedes S Class or a Lexus LS? There isn’t much of a question there as I see it, but that’s the choice.
The mechanical engineering that goes into a Benz is about as good as there is. Their electronics could use some help, but that’s a different question.

Looks like an offshoot of some of the early W126 prototypes.
