The 'Recession' Is a Media Myth

During the 2000 election, with Bill Clinton as president, the economy was viewed through rose-colored glasses. According to polls, voters didn’t realize that the country was in a recession. Although the economy started shrinking in July 2000, most Americans through the entire year thought that the economy was fine.

But over the last half-year, the media and politicians have said we were in a recession even while the economy was still growing...

Though Bernanke says a is recession possible, as he has said before, he made it clear that "growth will rebound this year!"

BTW: I am encouraged that the kookbergers here never responded to the original thesis of this thread--that the drive-by media, like our ol' friend bear, has invented the illusion of a recession when none exists.

Yeah, there were no articles or stories at all about the Dot.Com Bubble Burst of 2000. It was never mentioned. There were never ANY stories about the crash of Silicon Valley, the depreciation of stocks from their highs in March 2000.

I would expect Faux to do a story like that, they weren't around in 2000. They don't have an archive that goes back that far.

Now the technical difference is that in the 2000 Recession, Technology and Investors were the main two groups hit and hurt [it is one of the reasons the Bear is a bear now]. The 2000 Recession did not clobber the Financial, Housing, Retail and Credit sectors, while also harboring inflation in energy and food.

Media did not give it the same coverage as this one as it was milder and not as widespread. As long as it was just "those investors" or "those Techie IPO guys" that got hurt, no one really cared that much [except your portfolio]
