So do you still have either of the 850s? How do they compare to the 560SEC? Seems to be the same era technology.

^The CSI clone we still have. It is a definite step forward in suspension/aerodynamics dynamics in comparison to the 560SEC. The SEC is very robust and solid, but the body roll, slow steering, and generous dive and squat are things the 850 knows nothing about. Far, far, more electronics on the 850. Yes both cars have been eclipsed lately but both are still great drives nonetheless. The 850 simply drives better and more modern but the SEC is more dependable.

So I guess the full AMG kit on the SEC might bring it up to the 850 level [since I note none of those characteristics on my AMG SEC]. I have been interested in an 850 for a while [almost got a black/black a bit back] but ended up with 500E number 3 as a project orphan. It is almost done.

^Reliability wise you are much better off with the SEC AMG or 500E. The basics on the 850 are rock solid, but since there are two of many things on the 850, like batteries, mass air flows (notorious), throttle bodies, etc., you really get annoyed when that stuff goes bad from just sitting. Eats batteries regardless of kept charge a little over once a year, yes both of them at a time.
I keep forgetting your SEC is an AMG as that makes a big difference. Post a pic if you have one handy of that beauty, it has been awhile since I've seen one. A lawyer friend of the family had a new 500 SEL AMG when I was growing up. I thought that car was amazing, but his was a little too monochromatic for my tastes. The wheels (five star ronals) and grill were black as was all the trim. He traded it when he had a flat and the jack and stuff wouldn't work on the AMG ground effects and wheels. Eh. He traded so often back then it was silly.

Hey, I've been looking for the front caliper/rotor combos from that era R129, to graft on to my S124

Here are two from October. It has been in the shop since, waiting on me to start playing with it. It will have new paint and refinished Hammer wheels by the time it is finished. [I am setting up a powdercoating system in the new shop so I can play]
