Saw a Daewoo at the traffic light today...

I was stopped at a traffic light today, and a supposedly "pimped" out Daewoo pulled up next to me. The windows were a sad attempt at being "tinted", one could tell that it was the Walmart tint from the numerous bubbles it had on it. It was depressing because it seems that the person who was driving it dumped some money into the car. The car was just an embarrassment, and essentially a burned out piece of crap (the plastic hubcap spinners just drove my point home). My question is this: Why would a person waste money on making their barebone, everyday gas- friendly commuter car "souped up" when they know everyone will naturally ridicule their car once they see it?

It's yet another comment on an eternal existential dilemma. I just don't know which one.
