Police just keep things in line according to what they have going.

Even though it was the driver who couldn't handle his car, I blame the organizers.

But still, I can't see my dad blaming anybody but himself if he let his kids stand there for that.
Errmm, your dad was involved in some way?

I would disagree, but not to any great extent. The Police have the duty to protect the people, they would do this by looking at what is supposed to take place and determine if it is a safe practice with people in close proximity.
In my opinion, driving an extremely overpowered car, on the very edge of control, close to people and no barriers between the two is a bit hazardous.
The problem as I see it, is that they have done this before with no problems. They ALL thought it was safe, it wasn’t, and it never was, they were just very luck up to this point. No matter what, it’s a shame that people got hurt and killed at what was supposed to be a safe demonstration….
