We shall see if the lawsuit filed by Sinclair has any merit!

I'm reminded of Kierkegaard...

No doubt, this this will be a few thousand miles over your head, but one of the points Obama's speech in Philadelphia endeavored to make was this - the race of any given American doesn't have to serve as the complete book we use to evaluate each other.

To assume that a given person will behave in specific ways because of their race, is in fact racist. The fact of the matter is that racism does exist in many forms in America today, and people who don't have a malicious bone in their body may be guilty of it. The challenge is to eradicate racial thinking - to get into the habit of judging people based on their words and deeds, rather than the color of their skin.

This challenge isn't new - lots of people have tried to say what Obama said before he ever did. The difference is those people have typically been Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, with Bill Cosby as perhaps the notable exception. None of them have been able to enunciate the challenge to obviate race in America the way Obama did. For whatever that's worth.

I for one am of the mindset that it's fine by me if everyone agrees to drop their proverbial swords, and refuse to tolerate anyone who decides to pick them up again - on any front of the (hopefully one day former) racial conflict in this country. And as I've said before, we can certainly do worse than elect an actual leader who is intent on repairing this fracture. As a matter of fact, we've been doing worse - far worse - for the past 20 years.

You know, I respect you and have in the past. I always thought you were pretty sharp but I haven't been here all that often lately and am wondering what happened?. Did you get in some kind of accident during the time I've been gone? Have you become slightly retarded?. I dont know, if so I hope you recover.

Moving on, Race??????. I'm not judging him just cause he's black but because I truly believe that HE is the RACIST!. The writing is on the god damn wall brother (or bro). Oprah, Sharpton, Whight..............damn, are you not paying attention?. Do you not see what I see and why?

^ Thanks for the kind words; perhaps someone else can offer an opinion as to "what happened to me". I like to think I'm getting wiser and more mature as I age. Sometimes that happens gradually, sometimes it happens in quick bursts...sometimes it's fleeting. I still fall down a lot.

Sometimes I lament that my principles have died a bit; I used to love them so much. Eventually though, if you see the world as a series of binary choices with no room for subtlety, and stick to your guns on every single point, pretty soon those guns are all you'll have. It's not easy, but the process of analyzing "why are my beliefs on topic X really that important to me" is one I'm trying to go through more often. I recommend it.

^ You will not sway with reason something as fundamental as overt racism.

Q,

I think your doing a fine job of trying to make a point even though you know it is unlikely to sink in to the ones you are responding to in this and other threads. I have conceded several points over the last year to your very logical assessments and lucid presentations. I guess those who have had you pigeon holed in one way or another are finding it hard to deal with someone who does his own "due diligence" and arrives at his own conclusions. Makes them uncomfortable, like the prospect of a Black man becoming President.

I am in awe of the uproar by the white crackers about the three words, again taken out of context, Obama used discussing his Grandmother - "typical white person." Here, all these years they have declared the Black and Hispanic and any other minority needs to grow a tougher skin and stop being so easily offended by words twisted out of context to make them offensive. Now, all of the sudden there is a faux affront being coordinated by these White people that is really not typical, all to attack the man who could be the first Black man elected POTUS. Makes you wonder what kind of crap money will buy.

Good way to start a post. Surely someone who is reminded of Kierkegaard knows exactly what he's talking about, the lack of relevance of said Kierkegaard to the discussion at hand notwithstanding.
