Apparently you don't know what you are talking about..... LCD is a display type, nothing else.... Most HDTV's are LCD displays.. Only the high end ones are plasma..... The HD part of HDTV comes from the RECIEVER/decoder, not the screen. DLP, which is a LED based display, is also a type of HDTV.
HDTV is just a decoder... It can be hooked up to any display the manufacturer decides to use. Rear projection, LCD, plasma, and DLP are all acceptible. Saying that LCD is better than HDTV is like saying that Mercedes are better than German cars.... It just doesn't work.....

Umm, DLP is not really an LED-based display; it's a technology which uses mirrors and a color wheel plus a light source to project a magnified high-resolution image.
There are two primary types of HD displays - rear-projection, and flat-panel.
Rear-projection models use technologies like DLP, LCOS, and even LCD, to generate a very small, incredibly detailed image which gets magnified and reflected onto a screen. The light sources used for projection have typically been an HID lamp, and nowadays, an LED array.
Flat-panel models include technologies like LCD, Plasma, and soon, OLED. LCD panels are usually backlit by means of LED's. Plasma and OLED don't require backlighting.
Incidentally, the cow fucking child abusing deer shooter wouldn't be able to tell the difference between any of them, because NTSC animal porn looks the same no matter what you watch it on.
For the rest of us, the most pristine picture will be derived from OLED. Until then, DLP is the clear winner for it's remarkable clarity & brightness, and it's total absence of motion blur. Organic technologies like plasma, LCD, and LCOS (while a close 2nd), are inherently less able to react to quick scene changes accurately.
