I remember the G-3 as the NATO standard rifle, that at one time I was able to quickly dismantle, clean, and put back together in the pitch dark.
It was produced in license in many Countries outside NATO, including Iran during the Shah's time. For security reasons, all workers were German.
The scariest thing was a grenade that could be attached to the top of the rifle.
You had to sit on one heel, have the rifle strap over and behind the shoulder, hold the rifle in one curved palm (and away from sharp edges) with the stock under the arm (not on the shoulder), aim, keep one hand a bit away from the rifle, and pull the trigger with your finger tip.
The recoil is so extreme, that during every exercise soldiers had broken shoulders, broken or lost fingers, and some actually died. Of maximal 3 attempts to disable tanks, I had 2 perfect hits, right on the edge of turret and tank, and another 80% slightly lower.
Afterwards, I was hardly able to move for days.
Firing the machine gun MG 3 with tripod, with a rate of 1,200 rounds per minute was quite an experience as well.

We got to use them in NI as well, excellent gear.
The RUC used to have a fun day once a year or so
booked a range on an army base and brought along all the captured terrorist weapons and ammo. Up to and incl a 50cal browning HMG the day I was there
One simply queued up , paid a nominal amount ( went to RUC benovlent funds ) for a handful ammo of caliber of your choice, queued up again behind the marked lanes for firing that caliber, when your turn came picked whatever weapon of your choice that fitted your chosen caliber, charged the mag and let rip.
The most impressive ( despite the 50 browning being there ) was a H&K carbine in .223 ( i think ), anyway it had been used in an attempted murder from inside a building -- except to make it easier concealed for clandestine transport -- "yer man" had removed the flash supressor.
The "sniper" was instantly spotted as soon as he opened fire as there was a fucking great sheet of flame and horrendous noise when he opened fire.
Fucking magic, full auto and let her rip, didnt hit fuck all though, too busy laughing.
PS
I dont think there was hardly a sober person there that day, cans of beer being openly consumed, plus most of them were not sobered up from the day or night before.
Impeccable weapons handling throughout though.
The RUC had a very very good record for not having accidents with firearms

Thinking about weapons and the such of NI, on one raid we found a Karl Custav rocket launcher. leathel enought against tanks and would totally destroy a land rover. But the terrorist favorite weapon was so cheap and easy, cheese cutting wire.

"LOADED"
and the No 1
blows the gable end right out of a Nissan hut at Magilligan, with the backblast, a neat hole punched in the other end by the inert PRACTISE round --
only it should have been a DRILL round.
TEE HEE
It was a regular army guy who collected the ammo -- they would not trust us TA guys for a responsible job like that -- we might fuck it up or sommat.

I was there in 72 and again in 73, first tour was in Fort George (Londonderry) and second tour was North Queen St RUC station Belfast. I still laugh, whent up the river from fort george to collect something from ebrington barracks and came back and tied the power boat to the dock. next morning the boat had sunk, I tied it up a low tide and when the tide came in the boat drifted under the jetty and the inevitable happened. But then I was army and not navy, still the guys made some irish jokes about it DOE Must admit I loved the Irish sense of humour and spent some time with the QRIH a real bunch o lonnies
