Congrats! That's a very nice car. Just maintain it and enjoy for a long long time. It's a non-turbo engine, so an intercooler isn't gonna do you any good. ICs are used to cool down a turbo's compressed (and very hot) air, thus allowing a denser air charge into the cylinders.
What you'll want to do, though, is to be sure the glow plugs are changed out regularly. They have a tendency to get stuck and require major machine work to extract in that series engine. There's quite a few threads about that issue over at the "other" place--search under OM606 glow plug stuck, or something like that.

After I posted this thread I spoke to one of my brothers (has a bi-turbo RX-7) and he gave me the dunce-class in intercooler-ology: Small words & short sentences.
The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.
