The first that I can recall that did not require me to push it or let gravity pull it down a hill was a Schuco windup micro racer, similar to the Ferrari shown here.

You twisted the exhaust pipe to wind it up, set the steering wheel for the path you wanted it to take and off it would go.

I may have slept with it, I loved it so much.

^Yeah I know what you mean, but for me it was my mother's new '81 Fleetwood Brougham. Maple yummy firemist red outside with dark, cushy claret crushed velour interior. I was entering puberty and man was that a tough freakin' time, sheez. Nice to have something solid, metal, substantial, and stunning to play with. Ha. Mom bascially bought that car for me, she never really liked it. It was too big, and too ostentatious for her. She missed her '76 Seville with astroroof.

A 1953 Hillman Husky. It was kind of a mini car station wagon much like the new Mini Coopers, only not like that at all

I traded my almost new Schwinn 12 speed to my wood shop teacher, around the late 70's or early 1980 something.

A buddy and me learned to drive in that car as well as plow thru corn fields, do mechanical repairs and even how to roll over

Man, were those the days!

My first "real car" was a 1967 Camaro RS/SS and I wish I still had it! I also had a '79 Z/28 at the same time. I bought it from an older lady about 1984 who owned a Chevrolet dealership but it was a private sale at her house??. I've never seen another one like it. It was a real light green with dark green decals and green cloth interior w/ a 4 speed. I traded them both in for a new 1987 S-10 4X4 and never saw them after that. I was told someone at the dealership, the sales manager or ? still had them in his collection.

I don't know, I have an old photo somewhere.

EDIT: I found it!

I've had a lot of cars since then, Trans Ams, Corvettes, Porsche's, Mercedes, Alfa's, Jags, etc... newer and classics but that old Hillman is the most memorable

"Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin', if you don't stop driving that Hot Rod Lincoln." My father was actually foolish enough to let me use the family car at 16, selling it to me at 18. Talk about testosterone heaven: 462 c.i., 375 factory horses, no known top speed, and the biggest back seat this side of heaven!

My first car was 1966 Tempest Pontiac, I took of the name plate so people would think it was a GTO. and if I'm not mistaken a GTO started out as an upgrade for the Tempest.

1976 Malibu Classic. All black with a home speaker in the back seat wired to the deck. I still don't know how I did that.....LOL
