MEDIA & 'NAM: LESSONS FOR IRAQ

This is interesting stuff...

Cronkite: His misreporting cost lives.

CRITICS of the war in Iraq like to claim they "oppose the mission" but "support the troops." But the experience of Vietnam shows that turning our backs on the mission always means turning our backs on the courage of those who fought for that mission, and what they achieved through their skill and sacrifice.

Consider the battle that ended 40 years ago today, when US Marines and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) troops retook the Imperial Palace at Hue, South Vietnam's third largest city, from Communist forces after a 27-day siege...

Did you support the troops by supporting the mission of bombing that aspirin factory?

No? Oh right; it wasn't your boy George.

This issue has NOTHING to do w/ "my boy George!" It has only to do w/ OUR TROOPS in harm's way. GET IT?

WMD are no longer present, so mission accomplished. Remind me again, what exactly did we accomplish in Vietnam?

What is confusing for me is Mitt Romney, he had 5 sons out there on the campaign trail riding around the country in a Winnebago "fighting the good fight" for the Dad, Mormons and Country. So why were none of these 5 sons in Iraq fighting the good fight?

Tried to help the colonialist French regain control of their colony which resulted in the Viet Minh leadership, which had modeled it's declaration of independence on our own, seeking support in other quarters -- the USSR, which resulted in the UN brokering a peace in which the nation was divided in half, one supported by the USSr and the other, by us. We supported a brutal dictator while the USSR helped turn the democratic movement into a totalitarian puppet regime. We countered by fabricating an attack by phantom wooden fishing boats against steel-hulled ships of war. We "helped" our clients by killing-off one dictator and substituting another. Etc. Later, we surrendered and the Soviet client state immediately broke it's treaty and invaded the corrupt client state we abandoned.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thatís what I intend to reverse.

Yes, reporting the futility and horror of war could very well make people less likely to support war.

We obviously need war, so Cronkite's gotta go....

Wait, i'snt he retired??
