McBear, are you familiar?

I'll be in Manhattan next week and I was looking for Bosnian food near the Hotel. This place is just a couple of blocks away.

Profile

This garment-district cafeteria makes the best and biggest bureks in town—titanic slabs of flaky phyllo pie hefted from the oven throughout the day. The spinach-and-cheese version is sublime, but the ground-beef is even better. The kitchen also turns out great servings of stuffed cabbage and beef goulash as well as cevapi, tasty Bosnian beef sausages served with feta, onion, and a peppery condiment so alarmingly bright red that in the absence of a flare, you could use it as a roadside distress signal. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

Bosnian food? What, you got something against Macedonian, Liechtensteinian or Estonian cuisine?

One of the people attending the meeting is Bosnian and inquired about a Bosnian restaurant while we were there.

Tell them they need to expand their horizons. Try Bulgarian

Because of the food?

No, I have not heard of that place. But I didn't hang in the garment district too often. It looks like it has a good rating. I would go for lunch or early dinner. That area can get weird toward night - although some parts are beyond posh just up the street.

For a blast of Bear Past, as you go up 8th Ave at 49-50th you will see Worldwide Plaza on the Left. That was where I worked for 4 years. I lived in a condo in the small version of the building a block behind it. You can see it in the second pic on the link.

World Wide Plaza

I would recommend Victor's Cafe on 52nd between 8th and B'way for Cuban Steak and there is a nice little cafe [outdoors but that might not work in this weather] in the 1700 block of Broadway just across from BadBoy Entertainment. Much of the entertainment is derived from watching the playa's slide in in and out. If you should be there and experience an eclipse, that is most likely just P.Diddy's body guard. The guy has to be 450#.

Should you desire killer good BarBQue, Virgil's on W 44 just across from the Millennium Broadway Hotel is very good and inexpensive [for NYC]. If you don't have a place to stay, the Millennium is very good.

Oh man, I had a Bosnian sous-chef that worked for me and used to bring me stuff from home. They do this ground beef thing. It's heavily seasoned and then formed into a square patty. You pan fry it breaking it up as it cooks. Heavenly flavor.
