Incidentally, my wife did comment, not too long ago, that I'm quieter when I talk than I used to be. I guess it must be 4 years of Production Manager and a quiet office.

Yeah, these were guys who worked on the floor at the Chicago Sun-Times. The noise was unbearable and they talked to each other mostly with hand signals.

Oh, and that reference to the mad as hatters, part. They used to put cadmium in yellow ink and that shit would rot your brain out 10 times faster than mercury.

Printers do use hand signals. I have used this one many times.
