Congratulations, very cool. What type of hops did you use, and how long did it take.

After the Iranian Revolution, when all of a sudden people were being executed for drinking alcohol, we tried the same thing and failed.
Instead, we got the Swiss Air and Lufthansa crews to bring in white wine in the big water containers for the galleys of the planes, and had big parties with the Austrian, Swiss, and German Embassy people.
I remember a weird instant beer in powder form (no kidding), the Danes had originally made for Greenland.

I am not sure the type of hops because it came in a kit.

This has been a 6 week experiment.

The process is a little cumbersome however when I tasted the beer last night for the first time I was very impressed.

Those must be some great memories specially for witnessing events people only read about

I remember buying (illegally, and at about $15 a can) a case of Schlitz, not my favorite beer.
Some of the more enterprising Revolutionary guards would sell foreigners Johnny Walker red for US $ 100-150, and their buddy would stop the car and confiscate the bottle down the street.
No telling on how many times the same bottle was sold.
Armenians (my suppliers name was Soltan) would make an arak (vodka) from raisins.
The stuff had about 60-70% alcohol, and had to be decanted from the usual plastic jugs, or it would taste funny. I found a Santa Monica liqueur store that distills its own brand.
It's like a rough grappa. Friends who owned a Chinese restaurant used to serve us Scotch in a tea can and cups, so no one would notice. Pretty brave (or foolish), if you consider that the possible repercussions included execution.
BTW, for anyone familiar with Tehran, the Chinese restaurant is right next to the popular Chattanooga.
Before the Revolution, you would go out to the night clubs at midnight.
