1980-1990 was the absolute, no-holds- barred worst era, of GM quality control so as a 1982 vehicle there is more than a 50% chance that the car is a total, utter piece of junk.
While getting rid of the crap Diesel engine is a good idea, it is also a very, very tricky, costly and extremely tough proposition, and nobody's idea of a plug and play.
These cars are among the last of the great American highway cruisers, enormous BOF RWD boats that can really move quietly down the wonderful American interstate highway, but corner like a brick rolling sideways, and have less than average brakes usually.
Most of these have long ago hit the junkyards, and what few are left, most of them are seen around the ghetto and housing projects now.
The instant you swap the motor, ANY possible collector value is gone, and the car becomes a resto-mod, or retro-mod, a customized hot rod, with any financial value only to the person who did it.
