Without the conditional "if", the subjunctive would not apply.

You know I'm being kind here.
Doesn't the object of the subjunctive drive the condition, singular or plural? S&W is a bit ambiguous and I am NOT calling my Aunt at this hour to straighten this out in my head.

Mind you, once the majority is overwhelming, it rules. So we have "impact" as a transitive verb describing non-physical phenomena (which makes me cringe); and the words "stadia" "curricula" etc are consigned to the dustbin (and I won't miss them).

Am I suppose to correct my usage on all fora?

I don't understand your question. The subjunctive is a 'mood' and does not refer or respond to an object.

All you need is a conditional such as "if" or even "I wish".

Hence, "If I were a carpenter" and "I wish I were a carpenter".

"There was no wrongdoing" would be correct, but when you employ the conditional "If there..." it has to be "If there were no wrongdoing" to be correct.

Had some drinks at a dinner party tonight, and that's the perfect time for some conditional subjunctive I always say!
