Not a bad move on Chavez's part. He threatens, and the price of oil goes up on the spot market, which means Venezuela makes more money, even if he doesn't follow through on the threat and continues to sell every drop he can to the US. And if he does follow through, he still makes more money on the same oil by selling it to someone else.

Funny part is, Chavez is still very much interested in the US market.

that's just plumb dumb.

Its time for the auto makers the bring out the 120mpg+ engines! We all know they have them. We all know who pays them to keep them off the street!

Thats a start.

I like the idea of making the entire world oil independent. Fossil fuels are ruining the planet. The environmental catastrophes are well documented and are happening as we type. The human loss due to war for oil will become only worse.

It's time to invest in new energies for the future and time to say "guhbye" to Texas tea.

That would leave the Middle East and Venezula worthless as political players. Eventually the terrorists would run out of money to fight effectively.

I'm still scratching my head every time I hear an ad for the "new 35mpg Ford Focus". Didn't Honda have a 54mpg Civic back the 80's? How friggin hard can this really be?

Maybe CAFE standards should be such that unless your horsepower-to-displacement ratio exceeds 90hp/litre, your overall fuel economy needs to be at least 45 mpg.

Let me fix that for you:

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

How can Venezuela face a depletion of revenues? There are plenty of buyers if we don't buy, and if Iran gets in on the act, the price goes up astronomically and he gets even richer.
