No confusion whatsoever.

Part of psyching-up Marines for murderous beach assaults was to dehumanize the enemy -- one is merciful to humans but to kill subhuman monsters who want to kill you and rape your mom is not just doing your duty it is doing a service to mankind.

This line of thinking is why most people of that era feel no remorse concerning nuking Japan. The belief was that the lives of Japanese civilians were not worth the lives of our soldiers. I'm sure we can find some appropriate supporting comments from the recently deceased Gen Tibbets. Want to bet?

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

Actually I did in fact have the opportunity to speak with him a couple of years ago. He indicated that he was only interested in "doing his job.".
The attitude was far different to those that attacked the United Stataes in those years. We didn't care as much in the why they did it, more along the lines of "you killed my friends and relatives, and now I'm going to return the favor"............

Note the subtle difference between suggesting we "destroy all Islamists" - a RELIGION - and your examples of a war started by countries that had declared war on the US and its allies.

About 98% of Islamists have not declared war on the US, simply a few of the fringe elements.

It's those nuances that make the difference.

I'd guess it's more like 50%, but being a "fringe element" yourself you probably know better.
