As I stated previously, a good friend of mine was 200 yards away from the tornado who touched down in Central City, KY. He wrote the following:
Had an up close encounter last night; tornado passed over and to the South approx. 200 feet from ground zero.
Dinner at Mexican place next door to Pizza Hut....Rain/hail pounding building, wind picking up. Rain stops, lights go out, emergency lights come on, head to counter by front door to pay. Transaction completed. Freight train sound appears over head, double doors blow open exhausting air from the restaurant at a high rate; depressurization in progress. This is a bad sign. Owner intends to lock doors, we say no, let it swing to equalize pressure. Panic stare from owner. We exit building, decide time to go.....All is dark, no power in region. Turn South onto hwy 431. Pizza hut next door - no roof, gazebo and other pieces and parts from Days Inn across hwy scattered in parking lot. Days inn entry - gone, some windows blown out, building damage. Head south..crossing WK parkway, East bound traffic stopped, 2 trucks on side..lots of trees, brush, rubbish and vehicles across road. Ulgy scene....all in a couple of minutes.
Homes and businesses from Greenville NE to Powderly NE to Central City destroyed. Seven reported dead, in Powderly.
This is not supposed to be tornado alley......
Any one who has been to Paradise Fossil Plant has stayed at the Convention Center Inn. The tornado went down HWY 62 behind the Inn starting at Greenville it crossed the main HwY at the triple z car lot this is where the pictures started. The National Guard had all entrances to HWY62 Blocked. But was able to get some pics where it crossed. It went up after crossing and touched down again in Central City. Most of town was blocked off next pictures are of Days Inn at end of town.Notice the tractor trailer in the parking lot on its side.Pretty bad stuff. 7 deaths have been reported so far.
