Baby thrown from 4th floor window

LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany - Trapped by smoke, the parents of a 9-month-old baby girl faced an excruciating dilemma: If they threw her out of the window, would she be caught four stories below?

The split-second decision paid off: Onur fell safely into the arms of a policeman below. The parents also survived, although the mother was still in a hospital Tuesday, two days after the blaze that killed nine people, including five children.

The drama at a building in southwestern Germany was captured in a series of photographs of the baby in freefall as a group of anguished adults, thick smoke billowing around them, looked on.

*footnote*

Unfortunately the Police officer used to be a football player and after making the catch he instinctively spiked the baby!

Ludwigshafen am Rhein in Rhineland is one strange town, I've been there four times while working for Badische Anilin- und Soda-Fabrik , BASF to you, in the early 90's, over 100.000 folk work for the chemical giant in that town, well they own the city …it's huge and one of the biggest chemical plants in the world. I know people from Frankfurt un Munich that left that place as quickly as they could , you don't have to wait for the next generation for the defects to start to show, the Germans joke you come from that town you don't live beyond 50, grim .
Just about every news paper magazine in Europe is printed with their inks , clothes dyed with their pigments, your Benz and all the other brands are painted with their paint , hell every bit of you car comes from them bar the metal and rubber and leather.
And they used to make the gas for the camps as well.

Judging from the baby's name, the void seems to be filled by the Turkish workers.

Quite so, and if you read the full report, it looks like the fire was the work of an arsonist, the Rhineland still has a few of those goose stepping boys I guess.
