If you want answers here then don't post.

That being said, if you are respected here, then you may get a straight answer or two but this being BWOT, don't count on it.

What irks us most is some clueless and hot-headed noob with an inflated sense of entitlement bitching and moaning before coming to understand the place.

One needs to earn respect here and if your idea of classical music is Ave Maria and Requiem, songs that would most likely be featured in some $19.99 infomercial double CD set, it certainly does not cut it.

Also, it is not clear to me if you wanted a vocal work or some classical 'riffs' from best known works -- some symphomies just barely fit on a single CD. 10 tunes on CD, I am assuming 4 to 6 minutes per each piece.

Since Giants won the Superbowl and I don't want to be an total ass, here are some that are dear to me in the 4 to 6 minute range:

Pachelbel's Canon
Bach - Air in G (BWV1068)
Saint Saens -Carnival of Animals - any of the pieces but Aquarium and Swan are standouts.
Eric Satie- Gymnopedies
Debussy - Claire de Lune
Holst - The Planets - Jupiter, Venus and Mars.

Don't know enough about Operas - go glean Maria Callas or Pavarotti's greatest hits and same goes to other classical tunes as well.

Isn't opera where they sing, and symphony where they DON'T sing???!!

A black girl, professional exec/yuppie and stark raving "WHO" fan once said that to me.

That said, here are a few I like a LOT:

Con Te Partiro sung by Sarah Brightman/Andrea Bocelli

YouTube - ANDREA BOCELLI & SARAH BRIGTHMAN

Time to Say Goodbye (Con Te PARTIRO) 1997 from Album Timeless

The Lyrics:
Sarah:
Quando sono sola
sogno all'orizzonte
e mancan le parole,
si lo so che non c'è luce
in una stanza quando manca il sole,
se non ci sei tu con me, con me.
Su le finestre
mostra a tutti il mio cuore
che hai accesso,
chiudi dentro me
la luce che
hai incontrato per strada.

Time to say goodbye. -- Con te partirò.
Paesi che non ho mai
veduto e vissuto con te,
adesso sì li vivrò.
Con te partirò
su navi per mari
che, io lo so,
no, no, non esistono più,
it's time to say goodbye. -- con te io li vivrò.

Andrea:
Quando sei lontana
sogno all'orizzonte
e mancan le parole,
e io si lo so
che sei con me, con me,
tu mia luna tu sei qui con me,
mio sole tu sei qui con me,
con me, con me, con me.

Time to say goodbye. -- Con te partirò.
Paesi che non ho mai
veduto e vissuto con te,
adesso sì li vivrò.
Con te partirò
su navi per mari
che, io lo so,
no, no, non esistono più,

Both:
con te io li rivivrò.
Con te partirò
su navi per mari
che, io lo so,
no, no, non esistono più,
con te io li rivivrò.
Con te partirò

Io con te.

English Translation

Time to say goodbye -- I'll go with you
Sarah
When I'm alone
I dream of the horizon
and words fail;
yes, I know there is no light
in a room where the sun is absent,
if you are not here with me.
At the windows
show everyone my heart
which you set alight;
enclose within me
the light you
encountered on the street.

Time to say goodbye. -- I'll go with you
to countries I never
saw and shared with you,
now, yes, I shall experience them.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer;
it's time to say goodbye. -- with you I shall experience them.

Andrea
When you are far away
I dream of the horizon
and words fail,
and, yes, I know
that you are with me;
you, my moon, are here with me,
my sun, you are here with me
with me, with me, with me.

Time to say goodbye. -- I'll go with you
to countries I never
saw and shared with you,
now, yes, I shall experience them.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer,

Both
with you I shall experience them again.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer,
with you I shall experience them again.
I'll go with you.

You and me. (less)

Ravel's Bolero must be included in any top list of classics.

HA!

That is just sex put to music.

Any halfway sophisticated woman can spot that from a mile away...

Good choice, though...

Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" is great, too....
